TIRUCHENGODE: Students of a polytechnic college here clashed at their hostel on Wednesday night.
The incident left two injured. One of the injured students has lodged a police complaint, based on which the Tiruchengode police have registered a case.
According to sources, a group of Tamil students of the K.S. Rangasamy Institute of Technology allegedly bullied an Arunachal Pradesh student when he was on his way to the hostel toilet.
Arunachal Pradesh students retaliated against their Tamil classmates and the issue snowballed into a clash in which students thrashed each other. Arunachal Pradesh students, who wished to remain anonymous, told The Hindu that when Tamil students pounced on them in large numbers, they locked themselves up in their rooms and later fled by breaking open the window. The college management, while acknowledging the problem, maintains that it was a minor incident.
Arunachal Pradesh student Nabam Rajbai has been admitted to a private hospital in Pallipalayam. He is said to be out of danger. In his complaint Rajbai said Tamil students staying at the hostel attacked him.
The police have registered a case. Superintendent of Police, Namakkal, Deepak K. Damor said cases have been registered against a group of students for unlawful assembly and causing hurt.
