: An eleventh standard girl student sustained injuries as she fell from her school vehicle on Thursday after one of its doors opened accidentally. Police arrested jeep driver R. Veera Perumal (34) of Rajavallipuram and correspondent of the school P. Jayaraj (72) of Ram Nagar in Palayamkottai.

Case under Indian Penal Code Sections 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way), 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 287 (Negligent conduct with respect to machinery) has been registered against them by the Tirunelveli City Traffic Investigation Wing police.

The police said the door of the school vehicle opened suddenly as it was crossing Vannarpet. As the 16-year-old student from Old Pettai who was travelling in the vehicle to the school at Palayamkottai, fell on the road, she sustained injuries on the head and hip.

With the assistance of the public , the victim was rushed to the hospital immediately. She was referred to a Madurai-based hospital for further treatment where her condition was said to be stable. The police said either overcrowding of the vehicle or malfunctioning of the door might have resulted in the accident.
