Streetlights on arterial Alagarkoil Road — from Palam Station Road to K. Pudur — went off for over an hour from around 9 p.m. on Thursday.

Vehicle users found it difficult to negotiate the usually well-illuminated stretch. Lights from shops and business establishments during closing time on the busy Goripalayam segment was found inadequate.

Similar was the plight of road users on New Natham Road and Old Natham Road. Tamil Nadu Electricity Board officials could not attribute any specific reason for the lights going off.
