Depression has formed near the Paradeep islands

Deep sea fishing activities ruled out

Sea remained fairly rough

CUDDALORE: Storm warning No.1 was hoisted at the Cuddalore Port here on Sunday. Port sources said that a depression was formed near the Paradeep islands and hence, the warning.

Since the formation was in a far away place it would not have immediate impact either in the offshore or on the shores of Cuddalore.

Moreover, as the fishing holiday was in force, deep sea fishing activities were ruled out.

However, the warning was to alert the fishermen community who might be going to the sea in small mechanized boats.

The sources further said that similar warning was also put up at Pamban and Nagapattinam.

The sea remained fairly rough for major part of Sunday, a new moon day, with waves rising above the normal level.

Silver Beach here attracted good number of visitors today who unaware of the storm warning played in the waves nonchalantly.

The sources said that the depression might gather momentum or simply weaken away.

Therefore, it did not pose any immediate threat to the coastline.
