MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has requested the Corporation to put on hold its decision to collect the revised property tax till an Official Committee to study the issue came out with its report.

In a press release, senior president of the chamber S. Rethinavelu said that Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin had informed in the Assembly that the State government would take appropriate steps upon receipt of the committee’s report.

He said that the chamber had persistently demanded that the Corporation officials should have consulted the trade associations such as the chamber before taking the decision as it had a serious impact on trade, industrial growth and general public of Madurai.

The civic body should collect only the pre-hike property tax till the report of the committee was known, he said.
