: Dindigul will soon have an ultramodern indoor stadium meeting the entire needs of sports persons from the district as the district administration laid a foundation stone for an indoor stadium on the collectorate campus near here on Saturday.
Taking part in the bhoomi puja of the stadium, Minister for Power R. Viswanathan said that stadium would be constructed in 7,730 square feet at an estimated cost of Rs.3.6 crore of which, the public contribution was Rs.2.10 crore and the rest by the state government.
The indoor stadium will have separate courts for basketball, handball, badminton and volleyball and exclusive halls for kabbadi, boxing, fencing, silambam, judo, karate, modern gym, chess and carrom.
Besides, it will have an advanced conference hall, administrative office, rooms for trainers, VIP rooms, 250 rooms for sportspersons with attached bath and toilet facilities, dressing room and restroom for sportspersons, he said.
It will also have a big spectators’ gallery.
World class infrastructure will be created in the indoor stadium. All facilities required for sportsmen and trainers would be provided to the stadium, said Collector N. Venkatachalam.
