Exhibition and awareness camp on preventive medicines

DINDIGUL: Sufficient quantity of medicines should be stocked in all hospitals including Primary Health Centres and hospitals in taluks and municipalities in the district to treat emergency cases. Medicines that prevented contagious diseases should also be stocked for immediate distribution, said Collector R. Vasuki.

She was inaugurating an exhibition and awareness camp on preventive medicines at the collectorate on Saturday.

Representatives of local bodies and government doctors should check stock of medicines in all hospitals periodically. Shortage of medicines should be informed to the office concerned for immediate supply.

The State Government had been giving top priority to health sector keeping in mind the health and welfare of the people. Despite strenuous efforts by municipal, special panchayat and panchayat administration, mosquito menace was not eradicated fully. Total support and cooperation of people in eradicating mosquitoes were essential. Stagnating wastewater in towns and villages should be drained safely. Water should not be allowed to stagnate near public drinking water taps, as such area would become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Awareness of preventive measures for various contagious diseases should be created among rural people involving Non-Governmental Organisations, local bodies and volunteers, she said. Later, doctors taught simple preventive measures for various diseases to the participants of the camp.
