The proposed demonstration by village assistants in front of the taluk office in Krishnagiri was withdrawn on Wednesday evening. An office-bearer of the association told The Hindu that the revenue authorities confirmed that an order had been received from the government to disburse wages for election duty. Quoting the officials, they said that the wages would be disbursed in another two days. When contacted, District Revenue Officer P. Balasubramaniam said that well before the polling day, the district administration sent a recommendation for disbursal of wages for election duty, but was yet to receive any communication from the government.
