NAMAKKAL: The district administration would initiate stern action against those dumping solid waste in the drainage channels, Collector G. Sundaramurthi has said.

While inspecting the development works being carried out under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam in Arur village in Mohanur block on Tuesday, the Collector found a drainage channel in the panchayat heavily choked.

After instructing the workers to clean the channel, he told the residents that stringent action would be initiated against persons dumping waste into the drainage channels.

Residents should help the panchayat administration to keep the surroundings clean, he said.

The Collector asked the officials to expedite the construction of a reading room and a pond in the village.

The works were being carried out at a cost of Rs. 5.80 lakh. The works taken up to improve the crematorium in the panchayat would be completed in a week time, he added.

He visited Komaripalayam and Arasanatham panchayats and reviewed the progress of development works taken up under the thittam. He sanctioned old age pension to 39 beneficiaries.

Community certificates

He promised the residents that community certificates would be issued without any delays.

District Rural Development Agency Project Officer P. Renuga Devi and senior officials were present.

Noon-meal centres

Later, Mr. Sundaramurthi inspected noon-meal centres at Mohanur Government Girls Higher Secondary School and Aniyapuram Government Higher Secondary School.
