Tuticorin: The financial assistance to expedite the construction of an overhead water tank in South Veerapandiapuram village in the district was extended by Sterlite Industries India Limited.

Joseph J.M. Peeris, General Manager, Human Resources, Sterlite handed over a cheque for Rs.1 lakh to Collector G. Prakash in the presence of Ponraj, Panchayat President, SouthVeerapandiapuram, here on Wednesday.

“The cost for the construction of the tank is Rs.3.5 lakh. The SIIL has given Rs.1 lakh and the remaining amount will be contributed by the Government. The villagers depend on the tank in the village to meet their water needs. The construction of the new tank will help them a lot for storage of more drinking water,” Mr. Joseph said.

He also added that Sterlite Industries adopted the South Veerapandiyapuram village in June and various corporate social responsibility activities in the field of health, education, women empowerment and infrastructure development were being carried out by the corporate in the village
