ERODE: The municipal administration will adopt the one of the common ways to tackle stray dog menace - sterilisation.

Regular issue

Complaints on stray dog menace was a regular in all council meetings. In fact, one of the councillors himself fell off his vehicle, chased by a stray dog. The councillors demanded that the administration trap and kill these dogs.

However, municipal chairman M. Subramanian said that the Government had instructed the municipality to sterilise the dogs.

The process - involving charges for those trapping the animals and doctors performing the surgery - would cost the municipality Rs. 410 for each of the 1,200 dogs. The animals would also be administered anti-rabbis vaccine.

At the council meeting on Monday, the administration decided to purchase the vaccine and other medicines at Erode. The surgery would be performed in a few days.
