Municipality earmarks a sum of Rs. 80 lakh

A scheme to prevent storm water from entering buildings at Kandhal has also been evolved

A proposal on the card to construct a bus stand at Finger Post

Udhagamandalam: Steps will be taken to desilt the Kodappamund channel which runs through the heart of the town, said the Commissioner, Udhagamandalam Municipality, Seeni Ajmal Khan.

Adverting to the overflowing storm water from the channel entering buildings in low lying areas during heavy rain, he told presspersons here on Saturday that a sum of Rs. 80 lakh has been earmarked for desilting it.

Comments from an expert committee on how to go about the job have been sought.

A scheme estimated to cost Rs. 17 lakh to prevent storm water from entering buildings at Kandhal has also been evolved.

To a query on the ongoing operation to demolish unauthorised structures in the town, he said that the orders of the High Court will be complied with. The Government’s clearance for Rs. 50 lakh is awaited for improving the municipal roads near the horeham Palace here and Pudhunagar near Kandhal.

Stating that there is a proposal to construct a bus stand at Finger Post, Mr. Khan said that a piece of land extending over 8.5 acres has been identified.
