Dharmapuri: The district administration has taken up relief works on a war-footing in Pennagaram, Palacode, Karimangalam blocks and Pennagaram town panchayat to tackle acute water scarcity, Collector Pankaj Kumar Bansal has said.

The works include sinking of borewells, flushing of borewells, sinking of open wells, installation of motors and replacement of pump sets and pipelines.

The works are being carried out in the above areas on a priority basis.

The district administration has directed municipal commissioners and panchayat presidents to streamline the distribution of water and accord top priority to execute drinking water schemes on a war-footing.

Borewells

The Collector said that a sum of Rs. 34 lakh had been allotted for sinking 24 borewells in Pennagaram block. In addition, Rs. 20.5 lakh had been allotted for deepening 15 open wells. Relief works to the tune of Rs. 2 crore were underway in Karimangalam, Palacode and Pennagaram blocks, Mr. Bansal added.
