17 villages hit by leptospirosis; seven with typhoid

Krishnagiri: The Collector, Santhosh Babu, on Tuesday reviewed the preventive measures taken up to control the spread of viral fever in the district.

More than 2,000 persons in 45 villages were said to be affected with viral fever in Krishnagiri district. Of these, 17 villages were affected with leptospirosis and seven villages with typhoid.

The district administration has formed 37 medical teams, including one at each at primary health centre, to provide medical aid to those affected.

Along with this, a Block Surveillance Medical Officer (BSMO) has also been appointed in each block.

The BSMO will collect information from each block on viral outbreak, and report it to the office of the Deputy Director of Health Services. Mr. Santhosh Babu said two Rapid Response Teams, including a medical officer, health inspectors, entomologist and fogging unit, have been formed.

The team would do mosquito collection, availability of the vector and carry out fogging operations in the affected areas.
