Agriculture Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan inaugurates flower show
Earning the distinction of being the first official event of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) government which assumed charge recently, the three-day annual flower show got underway at the Government Botanical Garden (GBG) here on Friday.
Inaugurating the show, the State Agriculture Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan said that since the people have reposed faith in Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa it was her desire that her rule should satisfy all sections.
Pointing out that Law and Order will get its due only if Ms. Jayalalithaa is at the helm, he said that criminals including kidnappers are on the run. At tourist destinations like Ooty, safety and security played a big role in drawing visitors.
Stating that over the last three days the situation in the State had been thoroughly reviewed, he said that steps would be taken to fulfil all the poll promises within a year. With the support of the people Tamil Nadu will be made the number one State.
The government will clear a Rs.5-crore proposal to develop gardens including the Government Rose Garden. Development of horticulture will focus on direct benefits to the people.
Referring to representations relating to lack of parking space here, Mr.Sengottaiyan said that by next summer the problem would be overcome.
Tourism Minister M. Budhichandran alleged that the DMK government had failed to promote tourism here as a result of which the flow of tourists had dropped last year.
He wondered why shortcomings like inadequate parking facilities here had not been tackled over the last five years. The Director of Horticulture and Plantation Crops B. Chandramohan listed the special features of the show.
The Nilgiris Collector Archana Patnaik said that many events marked this year's season. Superintendent of Police S. Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar and the Municipal Chairman R.Rajendran also spoke. Joint Director of Horticulture in-charge J.Haldorai proposed a vote of thanks.
On the occasion Mr. Sengottaiyan unveiled plaques to mark the inauguration of the Katteri Park which has been established below Coonoor and the heritage section of the Government Rose Garden here.
Mr. Sengottaiyan said that a comprehensive plan for development of horticulture and floriculture would be implemented.
He added that appropriate action would be taken to set right problems and demands of workers would be looked into.
After a short breathing time the government will get cracking, he assured.
