The State Government has appointed K. Mahendran as Government Advocate (criminal side) and T.R. Janarthanam as Government Advocate (civil side) to represent the government in cases filed before the Madras High Court Bench during the ongoing summer vacation sittings.

The appointments have been made following resignation letters given by Additional Advocate General M. Chellammal, wife of P. Moorthy, Madurai (Rural) District Secretary of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, and all other Additional Government Pleaders, Additional Public Prosecutors and Government Advocates. According to sources, a list of new law officers would be released before June 6 when the regular sittings of the court would begin after the summer vacation.

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam advocates have been vying with one another to occupy the posts.
