SALEM: The Salem District Small Scale and Tiny Industries Association has urged Steel Ministry and Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) to start creating the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on the Salem Steel Plant premises.
A resolution to this effect was adopted in the executive committee meeting of the association held here recently.
The Centre has approved to create a special economic zone with an investment of Rs. 500 crore on the SSP premises.
A total of 277-acre land was identified inside the plant.
The Association members thanked Salem MP K.V. Thankgabalu for taking efforts to get approval for the SEZ. They urged Union Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan and SAIL chairman to initiate steps to implement the project immediately.
The association also thanked State Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veerasamy for announcing that the Electricity Board would ensure at least 22 hours of power supply in a day.
The government should make all necessary efforts to keep its promise.
The association had also decided to send a delegation to Gujarat to study the functioning of entrepreneurship clubs there.
Two such clubs were started in Salem region recently. Association president K. Mariappan presided.
