Stamp philately in your minds, youngsters told

Philately is one of the world's most popular hobbies and the younger generation should inculcate this noble hobby, said speakers at the inaugural of the two-day district level philatelic exhibition ‘ROCPEX-2011' here on Friday.

The exhibition was organised at the Teppakulam Bishop Heber Higher Secondary School by the Department of Posts.

B. Gokuldas, Principal District and Sessions Judge, explained how he took interest in this hobby during his school days. This habit enabled the youngsters to enrich themselves with sound knowledge, Mr. Gokuldas added.

Bahadur Singh, Postmaster General, Central Region-Tamil Nadu, said that the postal department is regularly conducting philatelic exhibitions district wise and state wide. Mr. Bahadur Singh vividly narrated the structure of the present exhibition and added that special thrust was given to youth and students. The current exhibition is a non competitive format. He paid rich encomia on BHEL's performance in power sector.

A.V. Krishnan, Executive Director, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, commended the Department of Posts, for bringing out a philatelic exhibition in a fitting manner in the city.

He also thanked the Department for bringing out a special cover in honour BHEL in connection with the exhibition.

Mr. Gokuldas lighted the traditional lamp to declare the exhibition open. Bahadur Singh, released the special cover and special cachet on BHEL and Mr. Krishnan received the first cover.

L. K. Dash, Director of Postal Services, and N. Inbalagan, Senior Superintendent of Posta Offices, offered felicitations.

Over 100 panels of stamps and philatelic material are on display. Exhibits were presented both thematic and countries wise collections.
