More than 50,000 Malayalis are now provided with BC certificates
ERODE: CPI(M) Erode district executive meeting held here on Tuesday demanded Scheduled Tribe(ST) certificate for Malayalis, a tribal sect living in Burgur and Kadambur forest areas.
More than 50,000 Malayalis are now provided with BC certificates for admission in schools.
Though they have been living in forest areas for many years, no concession is being provided to them.
Hence the meeting demanded that the State and Union Governments grant the ST certificate to them.
The `Lambadi' sect is provided with BC certificate in Tamilnadu, whereas in Karnataka it gets ST certificate. So the Lambadis should also be given ST Certificate, the CPI(M) said.
Executive committee member K. Kuppusamy presided over the meeting. State CPI(M) disciplinary committee president K. Durairaj and State executive member K. Thangavel and others spoke.
