A spotted deer was allegedly attacked by community dogs on a field in Puthupalayam near Avinashi on Wednesday.

The severely injured deer was spotted by C. Balasundaram, an anti-poaching watcher, and a few others, who took the animal to the government veterinary dispensary at Thekkalur.

K. Elavarasan, assistant veterinary surgeon at the dispensary, said that the deer was admitted with the posterior portion almost eaten completely.

“It died while under treatment,” he said.

The Forest Department officials are investigating into the incident.
