The District Sports Stadium needs a kabaddi court, said P. Vijaykumar, organising secretary of the Dharmapuri District Amateur Kabaadi Association here on Tuesday.

Mr. Vijaykumar told The Hindu that this would help coach kabaddi aspirants in the district.

Over 50 boys and girls were being given coaching in kabaddi court in Government Adhiyamaan Boys Higher Secondary School regularly for the last two years. For college students, weekend coaching was being given, he added.

Mr. Vijaykumar said that the District Sport Officer had promised to create a kabaddi court after getting sanction from the government.

The association honoured S. Krishnaveni, one of the members of the Tamil Sub Junior Kabaadi Team (under 50 kg category) for bagging the third place in the national-level Kabaadi Championship Competitions held in Jharkhand in October.

Ms. Krishnaveni, a B.Com. (CA) graduate from Venkatasamudhram village in Pappireddipatti taluk in the district is the daughter of a farmer-couple.

Ms. Krishnaveni told The Hindu that the coaching being given to her by the association was instrumental in getting the third place. She was honoured by the president of the association, P. Baskar.

Mr. Baskar told The Hindu that the association had decided to organise a state-level kabaddi competition in the district soon.

K.P. Anbazhagan, MLA, was elected special patron of the association at the general body meeting held here recently.
