Head constable suffers cardiac arrest on duty, dies in hospital
CHENNAI: A speeding share autorickshaw fatally knocked down a four-year-old child at a bus stop in Pakkam village near Tirunindravur on Sunday evening.
Police said R. Thavasi, was waiting with his parents at the bus stop around 5.30 p.m. when the speeding vehicle hit the child, killing him on the spot.
Thavasi's father, Ramachandran, a labourer from Ulundurpet, came to a vegetable market and was on his way back to Koyambakkam village, where he worked in a brick chamber, police said.
The driver of the autorickshaw abandoned the vehicle and escaped from the scene. The Tirunindravur police are investigating.
A 38-year-old man was killed in a drunken brawl at Toraipakkam on Saturday night.
Police said Francis, a mason from Kannagi Nagar, got into an argument with his friend Ramesh after a couple of drinks. In the heat of the argument, Ramesh picked up a big slab of stone and attacked Francis, who succumbed to his injuries. Ramesh was arrested by the Toraipakkam police, who are investigating.
A head constable attached to the Anna Nagar traffic police suffered a cardiac arrest while on duty and later died at a hospital on Saturday.
Parthiban (39) was on duty at the Blue Star bus stop around 9.30 p.m. when he collapsed, police said.
Two-wheeler rider killed
A 32-year-old from Alandur, who met with an accident two days back, succumbed to his injuries at the General Hospital on Sunday.
Karthikeyan. C was coming from Redhills when his two-wheeler collided with another motorcycle near the Pudur junction on the morning of June 9.
