VIRUDHUNAGAR: Minister for Backward Classes Welfare K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, on Wednesday, handed over free spectacles under Chief Minister’s Kannoli Kappom Scheme to 361 students of Government Higher Secondary School at Kallamanaickerpatti in Sivakasi Taluk in the district.

A total of 4,188 students of VI,VII and VIII standard in the Sivakasi Health district who had eye defects would get free spectacles. Similarly, 60,011 students in Virudhunagar Health district were screened for eye-related problems.

The Minister distributed maternity assistance to 76 beneficiaries. Collector Sigy Thomas Vaidhyan, Deputy Directors of Health S. Balasubramanian (Sivakasi) and P. Vadivelan (Virudhunagar) were present.
