SALEM: The police are on the lookout for the parents of a 13-year-old dalit girl who was married to a 20-year-old youth at a temple near Attur.

According to sources the girl, who was studying 8 {+t} {+h} standard at Government High School at Deviakurichi, near Attur, was married off to her relative Venkatesh of Ambedkar Nagar in Attur at the Sri Vada Chennimalai Temple on Thursday.

On Friday Revenue officials, alerted by a few calls from relatives, inquired and obtained the girl's school certificate in which her date of birth was May 13, 1996.

Based on the evidence, the Village Administrative Officer filed complaint with Talavasal police.

The police registered cases against four persons including the bridegroom, his mother and parents of the girl under Section 4 and 6 of The Child Marriage Registration Act 1929.

All the four were absconding. Special teams had been formed to nab them.

A report also was sent to Collector.
