Tirupur: Collector C. Samayamoorthy has called upon the students to get themselves more involved in social activities in rural areas as the ‘real India is in villages’.

Inaugurating a special seven-day NSS camp organised by Tirupur Kumaran College for Women with the support of civic representatives in Kaniyampoondi village panchayat on Thursday, he reiterated the need of more public participation to make the administration’s efforts to provide urban amenities in rural areas successful.

As part of the camp, free health check-up, computer training, skill development programmes for women, two-wheeler driving courses and environment awareness campaign were planned at various hamlets under Kaniyampoondi village.

Sources said that about 250 saplings would be planted alongside arterial roads in the panchayat.
