In its 175th year the St. Mary’s Church here marked the unique Wednesday by celebrating the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patron saint of Mexico which also falls on December 12. A picture of the patron saint had been brought from Mexico recently by the Bishop of Ootacamund A.Amalraj.

Along with 20 priests he conducted a special mass in which a large number of parishioners participated.

The Bishop said that the picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe was being venerated for the first time in India.

On the occasion new members of the parish council were sworn in and foundation stones for new projects laid.

The Vicar general Antony swamy was among those present.
