TIRUCHI: Special counters will be opened at the Regional Transport Office, Tiruchi, and the Central Bus Stand to enable owners of privately owned non-transport vehicles pay the annual motor vehicle tax and green tax.

The motor vehicle tax will be collected on all working days from March 26 to April 10 between 10 a.m. and 1.30 p.m.(barring Sundays and on Telugu New Year Day which falls on April 7) at the counters. Owners of non-transport vehicles should bring their original registration certification book, current insurance and emission certificates for paying the tax.

Owners of vehicles, 15 years old and above, should pay green tax. A sum of Rs.500 will be collected as green tax for two-wheelers and Rs. 1,000 for other motor vehicles.

Deputy Transport Commissioner, Tiruchi Region, S. Kanagaraj said the owners of two-wheelers, which were registered before April 1, 1989, had been given the option of paying either annually or for life time. Life time tax would be accepted for such vehicles up to April 30. Motor vehicle tax would also be collected in all Regional Transport Offices and the Tiruverambur and Manapparai branch RTO offices.
