It was a welcome occasion of fun for differently-abled children who left no stone unturned for showcasing their abilities during the sports meet at the Anna Stadium here on Friday. Over 350 children from various special schools in the district participated in the meet organised by the Tiruchi-unit of Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu.

“Such meets would help to improve self-confidence of differently-abled children and bring to fore their latent talents,” said P. Kalaiselvan, District Sports Officer. The day-long event was conducted in four categories – physically challenged, mentally challenged, hearing impaired and children affected with cerebral palsy – for those below 16 years of age.

Commending the efforts of the special school teachers, K. Balamurugan, Regional Passport Officer, Tiruchi, while giving away the prizes, observed that the role of teachers in nurturing talent of the differently-abled children was crucial.
