TIRUNELVELI: A special camp to provide National Identity Cards to the physically challenged was held at CSI Jayaraj Annapackiyam College, Nallur, near Alangulam on Friday.

The Collector, G. Prakash, said that of the 28,500 physically challenged persons in the district, more than 8,000 had so far received the cards through six special camps held in as many Assembly constituencies.

Five more camps would be organised before June.

The Minister for Social Welfare, Poongothai Aladi Aruna, distributed the cards to beneficiaries.

She also disbursed teaching aids, including tape recorders, Braille sheets and typewriter to the visually challenged.

Orthopaedic surgeon, Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital and Head of Department of Orthopaedics, Tirunelveli Medical College, S. Ramaguru, and District Rehabilitation Officer Shanthi Glory Emerald participated.
