The Madras High Court on Friday directed the Superintendent of Police, Pudukottai, to secure the presence of three police Sub-Inspectors and a Constable in a case relating to alleged assault of a person on Alangudi Road, Pudukottai, on December 5.

Passing orders on a petition, Justice N.Paul Vasanthakumar posted the matter for further hearing on January 18.

In the petition, A.Parveen, an advocate, said her husband, Mohammed Iqbal, was abused and beaten up by the four personnel, as a result of which he was seriously injured.

The petitioner alleged that the police also took away Rs.80,000, a gold chain and rings and a wrist watch from him. Her husband had preferred a complaint with the Ganesh Nagar police station.

Though the offences were serious in nature, certain provisions of law which attracted stringent punishment were not included in the FIR.
