The Superintendent of Police, Pravesh Kumar, has formed two special police teams to ensure early detection of theft cases in the district.
According to police sources, some unidentified persons burgled the house of Desiyappn (63), a former teacher at Kottar recently when the inmates of the house were fast asleep. The unknown persons lifted 86 sovereigns of gold ornaments. Similarly, the district witnessed quite a large number of chain snatching incidents, particularly the lifting of 5 sovereigns of gold chain from an army jawan’s (Robinson) wife, Rajmol, near Arumanai on Thursday by a duo who came there in a motor-bike. As part of instilling confidence among the public besides intensifying highway patrolling, the SP has formed two special police teams including one which would be headed by Kottar police inspector Jeya Pandian and another headed by the sub-inspector attached to Kottar police station, Sujith Anand. They have been asked to detect the theft cases at the earliest.
The main problem to the police was that the miscreants could easily escape to Kerala by using the porous border areas after committing the crimes in the district. The finger prints gathered in the teacher’s house and other incidents that occurred in the nearby areas matched each other and hence the police were suspecting the involvement of same group in all these theft and chain snatching incidents.
