MADURAI: In order to decongest city traffic, all buses from Virudhunagar sector, including those of State Transport Corporation, will take the Ring Road to reach the Mattuthavani bus stand from September 7.

According to a release from the Collector, S.S. Jawahar, who is also the Regional Transport Authority, these buses will take the Ring Road to reach the IBS after passing through Kappalur Junction, Viraganur Junction and Sivaganga Road Junction. Buses from the Aruppukottai sector will also reach the IBS through Mandela Nagar, Viraganur Junction and Sivaganga Road Junction on the Ring Road. They will take the same route on their return.

However, the existing arrangements for operation of buses from Tiruchi, Dindigul and Coimbatore will continue. The restoration of the Ring Road route for buses that now pass through Palanganatham Bus Stand has been done on the basis of orders passed by the High Court and suggestions put forth at a public hearing held on May 21.

The bus operators have been instructed to clearly display that the services will terminate at the IBS after taking the Ring Road. The STC, the statement said, would operate additional city bus services from Tirumangalam and Mandela Nagar to Periyar Bus Stand and Arapalayam Bus Stand.
