Thousands of devotees throng Lord Murugan temples
Tuticorin: Several thousands of devotees thronged the Subramaniaswamy Temple at Tiruchendur on the occasion of ‘Soorasamharam’ on Monday, the highlight of the Kanda Sashti festival.
The festival began on October 29. The temple was tastefully decorated with dazzling lights and colourful flowers.
V. Radhika Selvi, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, K. R. Periyakaruppan, Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, T. Pichandi, Commissioner, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment, N.S.V. Chithan, Member of Parliament, Rani Venkatesan, MLA,, Collector R. Palaniyandi, Baskaran, Joint Commissioner, HR and CE, and other officials participated.
Thousands of people from various parts of the district witnessed the ‘Soorasamkaram at Velimalai Murugan temple at Kumarakovil near Thuckalay, Bala Murugan temple at Nagarajakovil in Nagercoil, Bala Subramaniya temple at Vellimalai, Subramaniyaswamy temple at Marungoor, Subramaniyaswamy temple at Thovalai, Murugankuntram at Kanyakumari, Deivi Murugan temple at Peruvilai, Siraimeeta Kumaresa Perumal at Siramadam etc,. Special poojas and abisekams were performed to Lord Muruga.
Cultural programmes and common feasts were also organised in these temples. The transport corporation operated special buses from various destinations to the Murugan temples for the benefit of devotees.
The police have made elaborate security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident.
