District Collector M. Rajendran has handed over each Rs.5 lakh to the kin of two soldiers who died in terrorist attack in Jammu & Kashmir recently.

Jothi, widow of Sepoy Panneerselvam of Kizhakkumedu village in Polur taluk, and Neelaveni, mother of Sepoy Saravanan of Kattukanallur village in Arani taluk, received cheques from the Collector at his office here on Wednesday.

The Collector said that the Chief Minister released the funds on behalf of the State government.

Mr. Rajendran promised to sanction Rs. 500 per month as assistance for the mentally retarded son of Chandran, (also an Army man), elder brother of Saravanan, and to help the boy in securing an admission to a special school for mentally retarded children.

Assistance for constructing house

He has also asked Saravanan's mother Neelaveni whether she would be ready to join the school noon meal programme as a cook and promised her to assist in constructing a house if she could show a piece of land. Ms. Jothi, a school dropout, expressed her willingness to complete SSLC.
