Compensation to the violence-affected Dalit families

Following the directions of the Madras High Court, the district administration began distributing compensation to the violence-affected Dalit families of Naickankottai village on Thursday evening.

Thirty-one of the total 35 affected families in Anna Nagar received cheques from District Revenue Officer P. Ramar. The total amount allocated for the 35 families in Anna Nagar was Rs. 53.26 lakh.

The total amount for 190 families of Natham Colony was Rs. 3.61 crore while it was Rs. 3.18 crore for 99 families in Kondampatti and one family in Sengalmedu.

Distribution of solatium continued on Friday.

Mr. Ramar along with the Project Director, DRDA., C.K. Veerannan distributed the cheques to all the 325 affected families.

Meanwhile, B. Murugan (17) of Sengalmedu village arrested in connection with the Dharmapuri violence was given permission for a day for appearing for Plus Two practical examinations on Friday at the Adhiyamaan Government Boys Higher Secondary School by S. Vanangamudi, Principal District and Sessions Judge.

He was produced in the court and was taken to the juvenile home at Sankagiri in the evening by the police, sources said.
