Installation of solar-powered lighting in houses constructed under the green house scheme has witnessed slow progress.

Enquiries reveal that just over 25 per cent of 2,235 houses constructed under the green house scheme in 2011-12 in Kancheepuram district have been provided with solar-powered lighting systems.

When contacted, an official said though the green house scheme was being implemented through district-level agencies, the installation of solar-powered lighting was being carried out by the Tamil Nadu Energy Development Authority (TEDA).

Global tenders were called by TEDA, Chennai, and work orders were issued, the official said.

Meanwhile, some beneficiaries said they were made to spend around Rs. 2,500 to raise a small L-shaped structure at one corner of their rooftops in order to facilitate installation of solar PV modules.
