Six killed in two accidents

Six persons were killed and 13 injured in accidents near Dindigul and Ettayapuram on Wednesday.

Three persons were killed on the spot and one was injured when a car they were travelling in fell into a gorge after hitting a median on National Highway 7 near the Dindigul-Palani bypass.

They were identified as Andavar (58) of Madurai, his wife A. Jayanthi (49) and his brother's son K. Jayakumar (28). A. Selvakumar, son of Andavar, has been admitted to Dindigul Government Hospital.

They were going to Bangalore from Madurai. The family runs sari business in Bangalore.

Mechanics working in a service station near the accident spot said that they heard a deafening sound and saw a car flying in the air. It fell into the gorge 100 metres away. Under the impact all its doors were flung open and the passengers thrown out of the vehicle. One person was trapped inside the car.

Three persons were killed and 12 injured when a State-owned bus and a mini-lorry collided head-on near Ettayapuram.

According to police, the lorry overturned after the collision near Samathuvapuram between Ettayapuram and Sinthalakarai. While lorry driver Jesiah (35) of Nellore district died on the spot, Chinnakuttiammal (65) and an unidentified woman succumbed to injuries.

The injured have been admitted to Kovilpatti and Ettayapuram government hospitals.
