Six killed, 39 injured in accident

Six persons, including a woman, and 39 others were injured in an accident in Sappadi village near Shoolagiri on the Krishnagiri-Hosur National Highway on Thursday afternoon.

Police sources said a tanker carrying milk from a chilling unit in Denkanikottai to Aaavin unit in Krishnagiri dashed against a TNSTC bus proceeding to Bangalore and a private bus on its way to Hosur.

In the impact, the TNSTC bus drifted to its left and overturned, while the private bus plunged into a dry lake.

Initial reports said six persons were killed and 39 persons, including 15 women and three children. They were admitted to the government taluk hospital.

Collector T.P. Rajesh, Superintendent of Police S.R. Senthil Kumar, Hosur Sub Collector Praveen P. Nair and other officials rushed to the spot and monitored the rescue operations. Students from the nearby Er. Perumal Manimekalai College of Engineering was seen helping the injured at the accident site.

The names of the victims and the injured were awaited.

The Shoolagiri police have registered a case.
