Six huts were gutted on the 51st block in Satyamurthy Nagar, MKB Nagar in north Chennai on Wednesday night. Police said that around 8 p.m, the control room of the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services (TNFRS) received information that a fire had broken out at the 51st block. 

Immediately, three fire tenders from SM Nagar, Vyasarpadi and Washermenpet were rushed to the spot. “The fire originated from the kitchen of a hut and spread through the neighbourhood. It was brought under control in half-an-hour,” said SM Nagar fire station officer M. Anandamohan.
