DHARMAPURI: Five Independent candidates and a candidate from the United Communist Party of India filed their nomination papers on Wednesday, the first day for filing of nomination papers for Pennagaram by-elections.
In Dharmapuri, Independent candidate K. Padmarajan, 50, filed his nomination papers with the Returning Officer R. Maheshwari.
He claimed that this was the 109th nomination filed by him.
Independent candidates Manithan and P. Kandan also filed their nomination papers at Dharmapuri.
Independent candidates A. Noor Mohamed, A.M. Munirasu and P. Ravi of United Communist Party of India filed their nomination papers with T. Duke Ponraj, Assistant Returning Officer, at Pennagaram Taluk Office.
All the six candidates, except Independent candidate Manithan from Vaniyambadi, paid the requisite deposit amount of Rs. 10,000 as per the directions of the Election Commission of India.
