Sainik School gets Vocational Excellence Award
UDUMALPET: The Rotary Club of Udumalpet on Friday presented its prestigious 'For the Sake of Honour Award' to Siruthuli for its commendable project of restoration of the Noyyal river to protect the eco-environment of Coimbatore.
Siruthuli Chairman S.V. Balasubramaniam and Managing Trustee Vanitha Mohan jointly received the award from U.K.P.M. Karthikeyan, president of the club.
The citation appreciated Siruthuli for its concern and tireless efforts in making Coimbatore clean and green through large scale rainwater harvesting, afforestation, and sewage/wastewater treatment projects.
Alokesh Sen, Principal of the Sainik School, Amaravathi Nagar, received the Vocational Excellence Award while Udumalpet Municipal High School headmaster M. Sivaraj received Vocational Service Award.
Sainik School was chosen for the award for its 44 years of service by making high quality public school education affordable to rural youth and for recruiting the highest number of cadets to National Defence Academy.
For serving the rural poor and adopting villages, the school had received Raksha Manthri Trophy for 2003-04 and 2005-06, the citation noted.
Avanashilingam Deemed University Vice-Chancellor K. Kulanthaivel and Udumalpet Vidyasagar College of Arts and Science secretary V. Vidyasagar spoke.
Rotary Club secretary N. Sathyasai, project chairman Dr. V.G. Mohan Prasad and Vocational service director G. Ganeshkumar among others participated.
