A primary health centre (PHC) has been established at Thottanuthu in the Sirumalai hills.

It will serve the residents of around 30 hamlets in Balakrishnapuram and Thottanuthu panchayats in Dindigul union.

Till now, the villagers from these hamlets had to cover long distances to get medical treatment.

Inaugurating the PHC, Minister for Power R.Viswanathan said initially the PHC would function in the village community hall, a rented building.

The State Government had allocated Rs.38 lakh for the construction of a building for the PHC. Tenders would be floated within a month for the work, he said, and appealed to Thottanuthu panchayat administration to offer a land for the facility.
