Cold storage facility to be provided at a cost of Rs.5 lakh

Sanitary facilities, compound wall, parking facilities and others will be provided

SIVAGANGA: The Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, K.R. Periakaruppan on Saturday laid the foundation stone for constructing an “uzhavar shandhai” at Singampunari near here.

Speaking at the function, he said that a sum of Rs.60 lakh was allotted for creating the facility. It was Rs.40 lakh more than the normal allocation for an uzhavar shandhai. It would be constructed within three months.

Mr. Periakaruppan said a cold storage room would be established at a cost of Rs.5 lakh to keep the farmers’ produce.

They could sell the commodities when there was a good price in the market. As many as 36 shops would be constructed.

Besides sanitary facilities, compound wall, parking facilities and others would also be provided.

The Minister also laid the foundation stone for another uzhavar shandhai at Thirupattur at a cost of Rs.59 lakh.

District Revenue Officer, M. Karthikeyan and others took part.
