ERODE: A demonstration programme on disinfection of silkworm rearing shed was conducted recently at Panchalipuram near Modakurichi by the Sericulture Department.

Maintenance of hygiene during silkworm rearing and creating pathogen-free environment before commencement of silkworm rearing are equally important for the success of silkworm crop, said Sericulture Department officials.

To create awareness about the disinfection process and its impact on cocoon harvest, these kinds of programmes were being conducted under the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) scheme, said the coordinator of ATMA S. Jayaprakash.

Purushothaman, Deputy Director of Agriculture, who presided , said the convergence of line departments under one roof had increased revenue generation by farmers.
