PUDUKOTTAI: Members of the district wing of the Equitable Education Committee organised a signature campaign here demanding immediate implementation of the equitable education to benefit the future generation.

Led by the president of District Hotel Owners’ Association, Shanmuga Pazhaniappan, they obtained signatures from the members of the public in support of their demand.

M.N. Ramachahandran, town secretary of the Communist Party of India, said that equitable education would dispel the disparity in educational opportunities between the affluent and the have-nots. He said that poverty should not be a barrier for future generations in accessing quality education. He also wanted more allocation for educational schemes for providing additional infrastructure such as laboratories and other basic amenities.

Subramanian, president of the committee, said that all eligible children should be provided equitable education opportunities. Free and compulsory education should be ensured and the provisions of the Act safeguarding the children’s educational rights should be implemented in letter and spirit.
