On the third day of its investigation into the July-19 murder of BJP State general secretary V. Ramesh, the Special Investigation Division (SID) searched the stormwater drain near the auditor’s office on Maravaneri Road for weapons used in the killing. A search was done on Tuesday also.

Two conservancy workers searched the drain, but the effort yielded only liquor bottles, plastic materials, a mobile phone without battery and SIM card and tyres.

The 30-member team broke into small groups and visited the New Bus Stand and Salem Railway Junction to look for clues. The teams inquired with drivers and conductors of buses that passed through Maravaneri Road between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. on the particular day. The slain BJP leader’s office is located near this road. He was hacked to death by a gang outside the office. The teams inquired with some hotels in the city and verified the list of occupants in each room. — Staff Reporter
