Volunteers from the Anbu Charities, a non-government organisation, and students of various colleges took out a rally to create awareness on ‘plastic-free Kovai' in the city on Sunday.

M. Padmanabhan, Course Director, Anna IAS Academy, Bharathiar University, flagged off the rally from Sivananda Colony. The rally ended at Kamarajar Matriculation School on Dr. Radhakrishnan Road.

Students carried placards with messages creating awareness on the impact of dumping plastic bags after use. At the end of the rally, a symposium was conducted at Kamarajar Matriculation School in which students from CMS College of Science and Commerce, Sankara College of Science and Commerce and Sri Saraswathi Thiyagaraja College participated. Hema Shenbagam, Professor and Head, Department of Microbiology, Hindustan College of Arts and Science presented research papers. N. Baluswami, Principal of the college and S. Franklin Manivannan, Secretary, Anbu Charities, were present.
