The 15th Madurai International Documentary and Short Film festival, organised by Marupakkam, which promotes independent films, is scheduled to be held from December 6 to 10 here.
At a press meet held on Wednesday, the organisers said over 100 short films and documentaries would be screened under four categories – international films, Indian films, films from Tamil Nadu, retrospective (films by veteran film maker Pankaj Bhutalia, New Delhi). “The event aims at creating a platform for the short film makers and audiences of Madurai,” said R. P. Amudhan, director of the festival. The inaugural function will be held at Hotel Premnivas in West Perumal Maistry Street at 5 p.m. on Friday. More than 10 film makers, including Pankaj Bhutalia, Sushma Veerappa and Sunanda Dutt from Bangalore will take part.
The movies will be screened at 13 venues including Mannar Thirumalai Nayakkar College, Madurai Kamaraj University, Yadava College, Vellaichami Nadar College, Fatima College, RVS College of Education, Dindigul, Gandhigram Deemed University, Gandhigram and Sermathai Vasan College.
Kanche Aur Postcards (Marbles and Postcard), a short film directed by Ridham Janve will be screened at the inauguration.
“Each movie will be introduced to the audience before screening and a discussion will be held after it. The festival is open for all. Free entry pass can be collected from Hotel Premnivas between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. from December 6 to 10.
