Corporation warns sellers of sub-standard products

: For the second consecutive day, Chennai Corporation conducted raids in all its 10 zones and seized food items, packaged drinking water and cool drinks of substandard quality.

Officials of its Health department conducted the raids in several areas, including T. Nagar, Saidapet, Kodambakkam, Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Virugambakkam, K.K.Nagar, Anna Nagar and Ayanavaram.

Nearly 300 shops were raided by the teams headed by the respective zonal health officer. Nearly 2,420 kg of food items of substandard quality were seized and destroyed.

A total of 153 bubbletop cans, 12,910 water sachets, and 8,600 soft drink bottles were seized during the raids. In Zone 5 (Kilpauk) alone, 600 litres of water and soft drinks packaged in bottles and sachets were seized on account of being unsafe for consumption, officials said. Corporation has warned that severe action will be taken action against shops that sell products of poor quality.
