The municipality has set Sunday as deadline for the shopkeepers at the new bus stand for clearing the encroachments with a view to providing free movement to passengers on the pathway.

Earmarked

Though the municipality has earmarked the boundary for each and every shop, almost all the 60 traders have set up showcase, display case and other furniture beyond the boundary, thereby causing hardship to the passengers.

Led by R. Murugesan, municipal commissioner, the municipal officials ascertained the extent of encroachment at each and every shop. In a few cases, the merchants cleared the showcase together with the commodities displayed in it.

Mr. Murugesan inspected the quality of edible oil utilised for preparing some snacks at one of the stalls.

“Our effort also threw light on the sale of old packed food and snacks likely to be injurious to health,” said M. Mohan, a councillor, one of the members of the inspection team. Later, Mr. Murugesan said that the officials would re-visit the bus stand on Tuesday.
